Turning Points Part Two (From Insight for Living Blog)

God never wastes times of testing. The pain and struggles you face only SEEM futile.

TURNING POINTS PART TWO

Below is the link to the rest of the blog article from Insight for Living.

This life has times of suffering.  No one is exempt, not even children.  I myself lost my father to cancer when I was 9 years old.  ONLY Jesus makes life make sense.    Children who have a living relationship with Jesus always have hope.  The strength of child hood, I believe, is that we really do seek to know Jesus, just for the sake of knowing him.  As adults sometimes our pursuit of him gets more complicated especially when we have life and ministry responsibilities.

May we all seek to know Jesus more, just to know him.

Children’s Games

Children’s Games for Kids Church

Hi friends I am always on the hunt for games that I can do in kids church.  I like to start out the service with review games especially if I can cover the bible story from the previous week.

Attached is a link for some really good children’s games.  I especially like the one called “Chatter Bee” .  I think I will try it this Sunday.

Have Fun!

Education

EDUCATION

“Education is not a head full of facts, but knowing how and where to find the facts.” (E.C. McKenzie, 1800 Quotable Quotes)

It is important as children’s ministers to teach kids how to find things in God’s word and also how to listen to God.  There are some things that can’t be taught.  You have to actually spend time in God’s presence.  Encourage the children to keep their inner ear tuned into the Spirit of God.  Remind the kids constantly to keep an inner conversation going with the Lord and listen to his nudging.

Recently my daughter was looking for a graduation dress and I watched how the Lord led her to the most perfect dress for her.  We did not want to spend a fortune and we had looked in several stores.  There was a store where we least expected to find anything nice and she said, ”I just feel it inside, that I should look in this store.”  Sure enough, there it was!

There is nothing more exciting that seeing the children we minister to be led by the Lord.  Have times when the kids can share how they were led by God.

Over Under Game

Over Under Game for Children’s Ministry

Good high energy game for all ages. Instead of water, you may find slippery things at a dollar store that make this game a lot of fun to pass from one to another.

SOUR RELIGION

The church has had 2000 years to win the world by religion, and many times the religion is “sour”.  Religion by rules never worked in the Old Testament under the law.  People do well under love and grace.  Jesus was the friend of children and sinners.

For many who grew up in church as children, all they remember was a bunch of rules.  The church ought to be a joyful, accepting warm place especially for children.  In most cases they equate Jesus with how we represent him.  Tis a great responsibility.  We want children to see Jesus as “sweet” not “sour”.

THE FUNNY THINGS KIDS SAY

CHILD CHUCKLES (The Funny Things Kids Say)

A Blog by Rev. Grace Verrier

Today my stomach hurt.  I used every muscle in it trying to control my laughter.  I was teaching on Adam and Eve and I had a little boy in my class who comes from a family of nine.

My question to the class was, “What did God tell Adam and Eve to do after they ate the forbidden fruit in the garden?”  I expected the answer to be, “God told them to leave the garden.”

The little boy from the large family started shaking his hand wildly shouting, “I know!  I know!  I know!”  When I asked him what his answer was, he said, “God told them to be fruitful and multiply just like my mom and dad say.

Later, I told his parents what he had said and they explained how he had taken their words totally out of context.  I then told the parents, “I’ll believe only one-half of what they tell me about you if you will believe only one-half of what they tell you about me.”  When you serve in children’s ministry that is very good advice.

CROWD CONTROL

HELP!  THEY GOT AWAY! (Need Crowd Control)

A Blog by Rev. Grace Verrier

Last Sunday I ministered to a class of eight children, ages from Kindergarten to Grade 5.  It was so easy compared to the times I have ministered to 150 to 300 children in grade school assemblies.

I remember at one school session I decided to teach on worship and to help illustrate it I had brought approximately 40 puppets to the auditorium.  My plan was to play a jumpy contemporary Christian song and have the children move the puppets in time with the music.  I asked the children who would want to volunteer and of course they all wanted to.  I quickly pointed to children and told them to come up and put on a puppet.  However, the children grabbed the puppets, put them on their hands and began to run around the gymnasium completely out of control.  The teachers looked dumbfounded and I cried out to God, “Help!”

God told me to ask the children to stop and hold their breath.  It worked.  As they were quiet I told them to all come forward and listen to the music and do what I had originally asked.  Teachers told me later that the idea definitely came from God because they had never heard of it.  Needless to say, I thanked God all the way home.

WHAT TEACHING MATERIALS (curriculum) SHOULD WE USE?

A blog by Rev. Grace Verrier

WHAT TEACHING MATERIALS (curriculum) SHOULD WE USE?

Matthew 13:19 (NIV) “When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart.”

Our children are facing perilous times.  They are inundated with ungodly teaching.  Their moral values are being determined by their friends and the media.  If ever there was a time to teach children Godly principles it is now.

What teaching materials or curriculum should we use?  When teaching them we must keep in mind Matthew 13:19 to be sure that they really listen to and understand God’s word so that the devil cannot steal it from them.  We must be aware that secular teaching competes for their attention and we must minister to them using quality material and teaching methods that are at least as good as or are better than what the world has to offer.  If you do not have the gift of teaching and are unable to write your own material, be sure to draw from anointed resources presented by people who are experienced and knowledgeable ministers of God.  I have known Patti Loranger for many years and have worked with her and watched her develop into a mighty woman of God.  I believe she hears from the very heart of God when she is preparing teaching materials.  Her material is truly anointed and affordable and I feel that every children’s minister should prayerfully consider using it.
