How wonderful it is that the bible tells us clearly how to know when you have a true friend. You see the parable of the prodical son and how he learned the hard way that there are friends who are only there when you are prosperous. A true friend sticks closer than a brother and will tell you the truth when you need to hear it. They never leave you when you need them most.
As children’s ministers we need to be constantly affirming to the kids what a true friend is and that a true friend would never lead you away from the Lord. We can be sure that if they are not coming your way towards the Lord, then that is not likely a friend sent to you by the Lord.
Friendships often pull kids away from the Lord, so friendship is something we should OFTEN talk about in children’s church.

Supplies needed: Many balloons blown up in advance, 2 chairs
Make two teams consisting of 4 players each. Usually boys vs. girls works best. Place 2 chairs at the front of the room. A helper stands beside each chair. Line up the two teams at the back of the room, in single file. One team stands on the right side of the room and the other on the left. Have everyone say the memory verse. Then say “on your mark, get set, go!” At this point the first player on each teams runs from the back of the room to the front. Each helper will have placed a balloon on the chairs. The children are to sit on the balloon until it breaks. First one to break, wins that round and gains 100 points for their team. Then their helper places a new balloon on the chair and the 2nd person on each team runs. Repeat memory verse between each round.

Many churches pray for revival and for souls and for an awakening for their community, but are we really ready? If 100 new people landed in on your church this Sunday, would you be ready? Would your children’s church ministry be ready to receive a bunch of new children. True faith prepares. True faith takes steps to be ready. True faith has expectation.
I encourage you to get yourself ready because if you are praying for souls, then expect your prayers to be answered. Have people trained and ready.

The game leader will show a picture of an animal to the children. When the game leader says “Go”, the girls must make that animal noise as loudly as they can. Then the leader will give the boys the chance to make the animal noise. The game leader will decide which team made the noise that most resembles that of the animal. The leader will award points for the winning team. Recite memory verses between each round.

Many years ago I had gone to a work related conference and they invited some Japanese drummers to come and drum. They were breathtaking to watch. As I watched them I thought about how Heaven would be would when all the nations came together and presented their glory and honour and their best talents to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I thought about how nothing puts us all in the same place and on the same level as worship.
I encourage that in children’s church make it a place a worship where God’s presence is there and and every child can feel that they have a part of this God. Encourage the kids to always give their best worship to God and as a teacher you model giving God your best worship. Make it breathtaking!
